「礼儀とは，相手を敬うことである」

と答えました。すると師範は，

「全く違う」

と否定したそうです。

「礼儀とは，相手を敬うことではありません。礼儀の『礼』とは，相手を認めることです。相手がそこにいることを，ただ，認めることです。そして『儀』とは，そのことを形に表すことです。礼儀とは，相手がただそこににあることを，自分は認めていますよ，と相手に伝えることなのです。」"
